It is a large ancient temple of lord Siva located on the banks of papagni and pavani rivers in veerapunayanapalli mandal, old kamlapuram tq, the lingam in this temple is 2 feet high and was installed by sage Agastya. A big Nandivigraha in black stone, Mukhamantapam, Kalyana mantapam, Natyamantapam, Choudeswari Devi, Sangameswari are special attraction at this temple. The temple of Sangameswara is delicatedly carved on the vijayanagara style, and stands as a symbol of the soring aesthetic aspirations of Vijayanagara kings. Beautiful carvings are there on every stone and on every pillar, at this temple. HanumanTalking with Rama, Gopika vastrapaharanam Arjuna, with Pasupathrtham, dancing posture of Nataraja, and vinayaka, Siva in disquise of a sanyasi, Veerabhadra, Varuna the rain God, Dwrapalkas, Chaturmukha Brhma, Vishnu taking rest on Adi seshu Lakshmi sitting on lotus, the beautiful carved Gandhrva ladies, are some of the finest creations of vijayanagara ar and achitecture. Sri Gadiyaram Ramakrishna Sarma of Alampura well known as telugu scholar and poet wrote a book on this Kshetra.
One of the most famous temples in the district, built in the 14th – 15th Century A.D, it is at the confluence of three rivers Vahini, Papagani and Pavani. It stands in a serene valley surrounded by hills and forests which lend it a calm and peaceful ambience. The sheer scenic beauty of the place leaves an indelible impression on your mind. An interesting feature is the fact that while in front of the temple, the river Vahini flows in an easterly direction, at the rear, the Papagani and Pavani flow towards the west.
The temple has beautiful Gopurams, Mantapas and resting rooms and is adorned with wonderful sculptures of Shiva, Ganesha, Nataraja, Rama, Anjaneya, the chariot of God, and many more dating back to the time of the Vijayanagara rulers.
